Adoption of children from Mexico

Adminstrative  arrangements between Ireland and Mexico in connection with the adoption of children are being ironed out.

The latest arrangements between Ireland and Mexico are set out  in the Adoption Authority's website. This useful link will lead you to all updates.

Adoptions already in the course of being registered are not affected by the recent action by the Mexican Authorities in having 11 children returned from Irish couples. These private adoptions came under scrutiny due to the manner in which the children were sourced.

A delegation from Ireland visited Mexico in December of 2011 to discuss arrangements with the Authority there.
However, adoptions which are at the registration phase are not affected by the taking back of the 11 children referred to in the last paragraph. New developments in Irish law with regard to the adoption of married children are dealt with in a separate article.
