It has been possible in England for decades to check the price of a property by enquiring at their Land Registry.
This gives certainty to people looking to find an accurate valuation for their house or land. It gives Auctioneers and Estate Agents a definite guide. The Property Services Registration Authority, (click here to go to their website www.landdirect.ie), launched earlier this year, was to give us this information. To date this hasn't happened. Instead the Authority has been concentrating on the regulation of Auctioneers and Estate Agents.
Surely the introduction of a database which will give us the price of every house sold since the beginning of 2010 is a vitally important piece of work which should be completed as a matter of urgency. Anything that will give a level certainty to people looking at buying or selling in these unpredictable times should be a priority.
Here's hoping that the latest promise that it will be completed by "the end of the year" will not be broken.
