The teenager suffered cerebral palsy as a result of complications during his birth. The teenager, who sued through his mother, took a medical negligence personal injury claim against the HSE as a result of the serious injuries he suffered in the circumstances of his birth at St Munchin’s Regional Maternity Hospital in Limerick.
The court heard that the teenagers mother was admitted to hospital with raised blood pressure. Labour was induced the next day and the teenager was born by spontaneous delivery. The court also heard the he suffered severe distress during the birth and that he was later diagnosed with cerebral palsy. Liability was admitted and he secured €5.25 million in settlement of his High Court action.
